Sometimes closets are like monsters under the bed, scary and big. Many of my clients tell me that trying to choose an outfit every morning becomes frustrating, and trying to pull a look together is very difficult. When it comes to special event and date night dressing, trying to figure out what is appropriate for the event, and how do I accessorize my outfit becomes overwhelming. More often than not, we just settle on the same old thing that we think will work, but we don’t feel confident and beautiful. Women tell me shopping is frustrating and overwhelming. How do we begin to find anything when there are so many colors, styles, and fashion trends to sift through? Do you find yourself gravitating toward the same “safe” pieces? Then when you get home, you add another item, that is almost the same as all of the other pieces in the wardrobe, and again you’ve just purchased something that will just hang in the closet and never get worn.
This month I have chosen a dress designed by Tiffanee Bean to show you why the shape and color of this dress will work for several body silhouettes. It is perfect for a body shape where the shoulders are wider than the hips and not much waist definition. The darker top minimizes the broad shoulder line, as does the wider shoulder straps, along with the drop neckline. Tiffanee has created a definite waistline with the sewn in self belt, which helps to eliminate that “boyish narrow”. Creating a waist is critical to achieving a balanced silhouette. For a woman with a curvy silhouette, an hourglass or pear shape, this dress works quite well. It follows the natural curve of the body with the inset at the waist, and the hemline that slightly tapers in. The same is true for creating a balanced upper half on a curvy figure. The wider shoulder straps and drop neckline creates a balance from shoulder to shoulder. The monochromatic colors of the top and bottom elongates the body and creates continuity. I look forward to talking about the colorful Spring colors, and how they work on the body for the March style tip. Have a wonderful Valentine’s Day.
